Tumpang Lalu : RM111,000 missing from MH370 victims’ accounts

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking down the suspects who allegedly withdrew RM111,000 from the bank accounts of four Malaysian passengers of the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 plane.
The missing money came to light when bank officers from a local bank, who were conducting an audit on July 18, found that the money from these passengers' accounts had been withdrawn using ATM cards.
Kuala Lumpur commercial crime investigation department head, ACP Izany Abdul Ghany, said the bank immediately conducted an internal investigation before lodging a police report on Aug 2.
Declining to disclose details of the bank's findings, he said a sum of RM35,000 from the total amount was credited to another individual's account.
"We are trying to ascertain who was involved in this particular transfer of money from the passenger's account to the individual's account," Izany said.
Police are not ruling out the possibility of an inside job. Izany said all the transactions were done via ATM within the Klang Valley and not through online transactions.
He said police were now looking at all the CCTV recordings to track down the suspects.
