Tumpang Lalu : 22 more local fishermen detained for breaking Sabah curfew

Local marine police also detained six fishing boats during the operation on August 7, according to Sabah police.
Sabah police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said that the local fishermen were detained under Section 31(2) of the Police Act 1967.
Previously, 59 fishermen and 11 boats from Semporna, Lahad Datu and Sandakan were detained during the original curfew from July 19 and August 2. Of the 58, 51 were foreigners and subsequently detained under Section 6 of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
On August 3, Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun announced a curfew extension from August 3 till August 17 — the legal maximum.
The curfew, which came in the wake of an attack on two marine policemen at the Mabul Water Bungalows in Semporna on July 12, covers an area of about three nautical miles from shore until the international border with the Philippines, encompassing some 121,270 sq miles.
The area stretches for about 362 nautical miles from Tanjung Pundaras in Sandakan until part of Pulau Sebatik near Tawau.
The six districts involved are Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Semporna, Kunak and Tawau.
